Combination Garment & Duffle Bag

As a huge fan of efficiency, when I saw this latest variation on a weekender sized piece of luggage I had to try it. Also, picky and not about to get stuck with one that I didn’t like and would end up needing to replace later, I got 6 variations of size, color, fabric & features to put to the test.

Coolife, Modoker and Seyfocnia are the three brands of the combo garment & du3le bag most represented on Amazon.com from whom I ordered my six in:

Yellow PU Leather ~ Brown PU Leather ~ Black PU Croc
~ Black high-density nylon ~
~ Black Quilted Fabri. ~ Smooth Black PU Leather ~

WHAT THEY ALL HAVE:

24” width x 38” hanging length
Interior hanging compartment
exterior pockets
interior pockets, some more than others
detachable shoulder strap.
separate shoe compartment.
Interior suit/dress hanging compartment
Clasps for securing duffle ends
Snap or zipper to secure interior compartments

VARIATIONS:

26” width
43” hanging length
patch, zip or flap & snap closure
plastic “wet” compartment
Tie compartment
Air vents
feet
hardware colors

WHAT THE BEST HAS:

  • Trolly sleeve (to slip over your rolling bag’s retracting pull mechanism) gives the combo duffle/suiter greater flexibility as a carry-on for necessities should your checked bag be directed where you are not!
  • Toiletry bag in same fabric & hardware as duffle
  • There was little difference between the various manufacturers in functionality, they all have similar zipper closures for the duffle ends, varying somewhat in ease of zipping.
  • Fully open, they all share the interior design elements, with Coolife’s offering a longer hanging compartment to accommodate longer dresses.

FUNCTIONALITY

STYLE

  • For myself, I opted to retain Coolife’s black quilted fabric bag with gold hardware as it struck me as being more chic than other options.
  • For my husband I retained Seyfocnia’s high-denier nylon version which was slightly wider to accommodate a man’s suit and generally more manly.
  • The black PU croc is especially nice and generally has greater substance owing to it being a thicker and more rigid fabric. It had a nice but subtle sheen and didn’t look like PU leather (not that it looked like ‘real’ croc, either – just really nice though a bit weightier than others.
  • The black quilted fabric version is the lightest over-all.
  • The brown PU leather is especially nice and more supple than most PU leathers.
  • The yellow PU leather version is a difficult color, not buttery or lemony, kind of washed out and struck me as a difficult accessory to find anything to compliment it.
  • Easily accessible exterior pockets are favored over flaps as they hinder quick access.
  • Hardware colors ranged from gold to silver, bronze to a brushed nickel and dark gray, so one might find a version that matched whatever hardware your luggage has (if that’s important to you).
  • Air vents and feet don’t strike me as anything but superfluous namely because I’m not going to put anything in my bag that needs air and the feet won’t do a thing to keep a full duffle from touching the ground.
  • All PU leather is essentially water resistant, only Modoker’s PU Croc claimed to be “waterproof”.
  • In terms of being scratch resistant, the heavy denier nylon will be least receptive to scratches.
  • None would hold up well beneath a box cutter.
  • All have similarly sized shoe compartments that can accommodate more than a single pair of women’s shoes, and two pairs of men’s shoes.

Mine has become a “go-to” for short visits or up to a week with a roll-aboard, because it’s so incredibly handy to have everything in one place and I also use it as my carry on for longer trips to bring things I can’t do without (in case my checked luggage happens to “go missing”). I’ve received lots of compliments about it because it looks so rich, and it’s truly a joy to pack. I find myself remembering things like accessories (scarf, jewelry, etc.) as it somehow engenders “outfitthinking” instead of afterthought (especially since my after thoughts are usually, “damn, I forgot …”).

Very reasonably priced and due to competition, getting lower by the month it seems, this is a piece of luggage you’ll use and often, and one you’ll appreciate for its functionality and design (always a stellar combination)!
